Topography of Terror  10h30

The U-bahn journey takes 17 minutes (13 stops)  to Kochstrasse on line 6 direction Alt-Mariendorf from Kurt Schumacher Platz.  If you are on a train by 09h30, you will have plenty of time for the "scenic walk" to the exhibition.   At Kochstrasse, leave the station at the rear of the train.  You will see a corner ahead with traffic lights.  Cross ahead and on your right is the Haus am Checkpoint Charlie museum, and just beyond is the replica of Allied Checkpoint Charlie in the middle of the street.  As you pass this, turn left into Zimmerstrasse and walk along.  The line of the Berlin Wall is marked in the surface of the road.

When you reach the end (Wilhelmstrasse), cross ahead into Niederkirchnerstrasse.  Remains of the Wall are now on your left.  As you reach the end of the section of Wall, turn left.  You have the Martin Gropius Bau on your right, with Topography of Terror ahead.  You merely have to introduce yourself – the guide will be waiting.

Walk through government area.

After this visit, come back to Wilhelmstrasse and turn left along it.  The first building on your left is the former Air Ministry, now still a government building.  As you walk, watch out for the posts containing descriptions of Reich government buildings which stood along the length of the street.  I recommend that you turn right into Mohrenstrasse and go down into the U-bahn station, which is constructed of red granite taken from the Reichschancellory. The first batch was taken to Moscow, the second to help construct the Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park, and the rest was used up here in a subway station.  If you then cross back along Voss Strasse, and then right, at the end you will find yourself close to a children's playground.  The entrance to Hitler's bunker is directly under the playground, with the bunker itself under the open land towards the Brandenburg Gate.

Afternoon free in Potsdamer Platz.

Evening meal at Hard Rock Café 20h00.

I assume that you will return to the hotel before going out for evening meal, in which case directions are:

Take U-bahn line 6 as always 4 stops to Leopoldplatz, where switch to line U9 direction Rathaus Steglitz for 7 stops to Kurfürstendamm (stop after Zoologischer Garten).  Here exit to the street and walk, with the memorial Church behind you, on the left hand side.  Meinekestrasse is the first on the left, and the Hard Rock Café is about fifty metres down on the left.  When you go in, please give them the voucher for your meal.

Return to the hotel after the meal is the reverse of your outward journey.
